One of the strongest themes that came through in the responses I received was a lack of trust. Not necessarily rejection, but caution.
Several people shared experiences where AI gave answers that sounded convincing but turned out to be wrong. That’s a difficult combination to deal with. When something presents information confidently, it’s easy to assume it’s accurate. But that isn’t always the case.
For those with technical backgrounds, this concern runs deeper. Some described modern AI systems as powerful but unpredictable. Not because they’re poorly built, but because they operate in ways that aren’t always obvious to the user.
There was also mention of how AI can “hallucinate” information—producing details that look real but aren’t. In some cases, even attributing those details to credible sources. That’s not just a small flaw. It’s something that requires attention, especially if the output is being used for important decisions.
Another point that came up was how easily people can rely on AI without questioning it. When something makes tasks faster and easier, there’s a natural tendency to trust it. But speed doesn’t always mean accuracy.
Some responses went further, suggesting that the way AI is presented can sometimes be misleading. That there’s a gap between what it’s marketed as and how it actually performs in certain situations.
That might sound critical, but it’s not necessarily negative. It’s a reminder that every tool has limits.
Interestingly, even those who use AI regularly often mentioned that they still double-check the results. Not because they expect it to fail, but because they know it can.
That seems to be the more balanced position. Not rejecting it, but not relying on it blindly either.
In that sense, the lack of trust isn’t really about fear. It’s about awareness.
And that awareness might actually be what makes AI more useful in the long run.
