Striv: Are We Becoming Too Comfortable Letting AI Make Small Decisions for Us?

When AI first became widely available, most people used it to answer questions.

Today, many people use it for much more than that.

We ask AI:

On the surface, these seem like small decisions.

And individually, they probably are.

But together, they reveal something interesting.

AI is gradually becoming part of our everyday decision-making.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

If an AI tool helps you compare products more quickly or suggests a clearer way to write an email, it can save time and reduce frustration.

I’ve found it useful for exactly those kinds of tasks.

What I find more interesting is where we draw the line.

At what point does convenience become dependence?

Would you let AI choose your next holiday?

Your next phone?

Your investment options?

Your career move?

Most of us are happy to accept recommendations when the stakes are low.

But as AI becomes more capable, the decisions it can help with become more significant.

Perhaps the real question isn’t whether AI should help us make decisions.

It’s whether we continue to stay actively involved in those decisions.

Technology has always been about making life easier.

The challenge is making sure it doesn’t replace our judgement where that judgement still matters.

For me, AI works best as an adviser rather than a decision-maker.

It can help me think more clearly.

But I still want the final choice to be mine.

As AI becomes more integrated into everyday life, I suspect this is a question more of us will need to consider.

Not because AI is replacing our thinking overnight.

But because habits often change gradually.

And sometimes we don’t notice until they’ve already changed.
